  • Never let kids go trick-or-treating alone. Make sure they stay in groups. A parent should always accompany young children.
  • Remind your kids of traffic safety and to look both ways before crossing the street, use crosswalks, don’t run, etc.
  • Make sure all kids are visible in the dark. Use lights, glow sticks or reflective tape on dark costumes.
  • If your child is wearing a mask, make sure it fits properly and doesn’t obstruct breathing or sight.
  • Make sure costumes fit well. Avoid baggy costumes that are easy to trip on.
  • Encourage your trick-or-treater to wear comfortable, supportive shoes.
  • Remind your kids to never enter a stranger’s home and to only visit well-lit houses.
  • Make it a rule that they cannot eat any of their candy until you check it for choking hazards and tampering. Throw away any treats that are not factory sealed.

Halloween is spooky fun for kids of all ages. At Denver Physical Medicine, we don’t want the night to end in injuries for any of our neighbors in the Denver area. Avoid accidents by following the simple tips outlined above. From all of us, we would like to wish you a safe and a happy Halloween!
